The Mets fell to 0-2 today with a 9-5 loss to the Reds. Starter Tom Glavine was ineffective and a Mets' ninth-inning rally was too little, too late.
Glavine allowed 9 hits and 5 earned runs before being lifted in the fourth inning. His day was made more difficult by non-calls from home plate ump Chuck Merriwether, one of the most inconsistent in the big leagues.

Pedro Martinez pitched one of his best games in years this afternoon, but it wasn't enough for the Mets to notch an Opening Day win.
The Mets fell behind 3-1 in the first, but rallied for a 6-4 lead after 7 innings. Mets fans were confident that a win was within reach when closer Braden Looper entered the game in the 9th. The Reds, however, rallied for three runs and a win against the New York reliever who gave up a two-run game-tying homerun to Adam Dunn and a solo game-winning shot to Joe Randa.
